Console LAN, ** READ ME FIRST **

FAQ:

Console? LAN Party?
We'd have a bunch of consoles, i.e. X-Box, GameCube, PS2, etc., magnified to gigantic size using projectors, and host free-style and tournament play on a number of popular games. I'm thinking quite a few people, perhaps 100ish, if possible. Maybe more. Many consoles, many projectors.

What kind of games would be played?
Halo [2]
Soul Caliber [2]
Super Smash Brothers [Melee]
MarioKart [Super/64/DD]

... there're a lot of possibilities

Would there be sweet prizes?
Heck yes! We'd try to get kickass sponsors and maybe have a drawing or two, as well as give out prizes for tournament winners. In true nerdclub fashion, I don't know if we'd do cash prizes. Dunno though; that may change.

Would there be an admission charge?
We'd probably have to cover the cost of the building and maybe a few other expenses, so yes. However, it'd be minimal. Definitely no more than 10 bucks (and even that's probably a high estimate).

When would this hellatious event be?
It'd probably be the middle to end of July on a Saturday.

Are you crazy?!
Yes.

Done right would be lots of consoles, lots of controllers, lots of projectors.

done right if there are enough consoles and projectors/tvs to accomodate people that might not be in or lost in a tournament

What about the good 'ol Sega Dreamcast?

you should have original nintendo super tecmo bowl tournament or if thats not available some sort of emulator to run it :) or RBI baseball 3

you may get a lot of different people than past lan's since it requires less hardware and everyone is on the same playing field.

technically it should be called a console party...granted you can "network" xboxs, but we dont want to give people the impression they should bring their computers...

I'm sure we could do it. We'd probably have some polls / votes to determine what consoles would be present, although we could always have open play on anything. Voting would be more for tournaments. And heck yes, super tecmo bowl!

I was thinking it'd be sweet to have a giant projected duck hunt. However, I've read some reviews stating this is not possible. Fortunately, NOTHING is UNPOSSIBLE. The argument is that there's not enough light reflected off the wall. I think all we'd need to do is hack open the gun and replace the phototransistor inside with a better one (that could detect variances in light much better), or find a way to amplify the signal from the phototransistor.

Also, start listing possible consoles and possible games for each console, if you're bored and have nothing better to do. I'll start compiling a list. Don't just spit out a bunch of crappy crap games or stuff, because I could probably find a list of that online. Go for consoles and games that you think would be fun to play tournament-style and stuff.

should we post the games and consoles here, or should we make a new thread for that or something?

and if it's done right would be just like the other people said... enough consoles, enough projectors or TVs, and enough people to play the games. also enough tournaments to keep some people busy... that also kinda goes along the lines of having enough consoles so the people that arent playing tourneys are kinda having fun playing something else

We tried out the Duck Hunt with a projector thing when we did it as our first mystery tournament for LanBash. We did a bunch of research on how to make it work after we discovered it wouldn't. I would imagine if you could come up with some sort of large, very reflective surface (such as a giant mirror or something) it could concieveably work. Otherwise, a wall or something just isn't reflective in the right way for the gun to read it. It scatters and diffuses the light, so you'd have to have one powerful receptor in the gun to even think about it working.

We just ended up using a very large TV. It rocked to the max.

i needs more input. if you know people who can provide worthwhile input and/or donate their console(s), hound them until they come and post here or something.

i can bring my 10-atari-games-in-atari-controller (or was it 8? i dont know) thing
its pretty awesome, you just plug in the cords from the controller to a tv and turn it on and it starts kicking ass

well i dont have my xbox anymore, but i may be able to borrow it for the console party tho... we'll have to see... any ideas on a date yet if we do do it?
